1998 England World Cup Songs

The 1998 World Cup in France produced some memorable songs two of which actually beat the official song in the singles charts. It was a time that music was very popular and Brit Pop was still at the front of everyones minds.

England United - On Top of the World

The official song for 1998 by England United - Top of the World featured the likes of the Spice Girls, Ocean Colour Scene and Ian McCulloch but was beaten in the charts by the unofficial release of Three Lions 98.

Verdict

3/5 - One of the early songs to feature proper music artists and not a bad effort.

Three Lions 98 - Frank Skinner/David Baddiel

This version was rerelease of the official 1996 European Championships by the comedians Frank Skinner and David Baddiel and featured Ian Brodie from the Lightning Seeds.

Verdict

5/5 - This song created a stir like no other when it was first released and this reworking still brought the emotions to the front, a fine song what will played for years to come.

Vindaloo - Fat Les

This song was written and performed by the actor Keith Allen who had also contributed to the 1990 World Cup song "World In Motion".

Verdict

3/5 - A joke song that needs to be heard whilst watching the video (that features a certain Matt Lucas and David Walliams).
