Robson

Sir Bobby Robson

He had a playing career that spanned 18 years starting off at Fulham for 152 games and 68 goals he then moved to WBA where he made 239 appearances and scored 56 goals before finally moving to Fulham where he ended his UK playing career, he briefly played for Vancouver Royals in 1967-68. During his time at WBA he was picked by Walter Winterbottom for the England squad where he was capped 20 times from 1957-1962 scoring 4 goals along the way.

After his on the field career had ended he began managing his former club Fulham who were relegated in his first (part) season in charge, he was sacked the following season and found this out when he saw the headline "Robson Sacked" in the Evening Standard before he had heard from the club!

After Fulham he had what these days would be called an eternity in charge as he managed Ipswich for 13 years, it was his record at Ipswich that the Football Association noticed him and offered him the role of England manager in 1982 to replace Ron Greenwood.

Robson was in charge of England for 8 years from 1982 to 1990 getting them to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and Italy in 1990.

Sir Bobby Robson sadly passed away on 31st July 2009.
