Football Paul Gascoigne

England Expects Legends - Paul Gascoigne

Paul Gascoigne has lived his life to the excesses that you would have expected a rock star or a footballer from the 70's would have done. He has had run ins with the police, addictions that would make Keith Richards worry as well as all the other trappings that being a world famous footballer would attract.

Before the fame began Gascoigne started his career with the team he supported throughout his childhood Newcastle United after failing to impress at trials he was turned down a string of teams that included Ipswich and Middlesbrough.

Since his football career ended he has made a couple of aborted attempts at football management at Kettering Town and Garforth Town but Gazza's demons prevailed being dismissed Kettering's board who citied his alcohol problems and he never even managed to attend a game at Garforth Town before he changed his mind over the appointment, around the same time he was arrested for drink driving where he was found to be four times over the legal limit. More recently he was arrested on the 21st October 2010 for possession of cocaine and entered rehab for the 10th time in his life.

Gazza however should be remembered for what he did when on the pitch not the sad hollow person that his dependency on drink and drugs has made him become, hopefully he will be able to sort his life out in the coming years.
